    How Smart Devices Could Violate Your Privacy

    Joel Reidenberg was quoted in a Rolling Stone article about the possibility of smart technologies violating user privacy.

    Professor Joel Reidenberg, founder of Fordham University School of Law’s Center on Information Law and Policy explains that, as far as the law is concerned, consumers are effectively choosing to bring surveillance devices into their homes. “Seeking a warrant for video surveillance taken in proximity to a murder wouldn’t be considered a fishing expedition. This is no different.” “The Stein Scholars is a vibrant community of passionate aspiring public interest lawyers. In law school my fellow Stein Scholars inspired me, supported me and sharpened my thinking about important social justice issues. They also became some of my closest friends and a professional network that I still lean on today. I’m very grateful for the Stein Scholars experience!”

    Reidenberg has a similar opinion: “We have a real problem, there’s no such thing as an assurance of privacy. You have no idea what devices are out there – a cell phone recording or a third party listening.”
