Texas Power Broker Donnley from the Bronx to USAA’s Executive Suite

Alumna Deneen Donnley ’92, general counsel for USAA, was featured in the San Antonio Express-News for her career achievements.

A random draw of jury duty on a personal injury case and some good advice from friends set Deneen Donnley on the path from an apartment in the Bronx to the Executive Council at USAA.

As general counsel of the financial services giant, Donnley oversees about 700 legal employees across the company’s compliance, litigation and human resources departments as well as its government and industry relations team. She’s the company’s corporate secretary as well as the top lawyer to CEO Stuart Parker, the board of directors and USAA’s 33,000 employees.

Donnley also oversees the litigation work whenever the company’s 12.4 million members get sued in an auto accident, homeowner’s or other dispute.

Donnley joined USAA in 2010 after a decade at Dutch banking and financial services firm ING Direct, where she guided the company through some dicey issues as General Counsel during the financial crisis. She was well-suited for the task, having started as a regulatory lawyer at the Federal Reserve Board in D.C. after law school.

    …

Donnley now serves on the board of directors for Girls Inc. of San Antonio and is a member of the Women’s Leadership Council for the United Way of San Antonio.
