Law360 reported that on May 30 Barnes & Thornburg announced that Fordham Law alumnus Charles “Chuck” G. La Bella ’78 has joined the firm as counsel.

La Bella also joined Barnes & Thornburg after working for the Justice Department for more than two decades, serving as a U.S. attorney in both the Southern District of New York and the Southern District of California. From 2010 to 2016, La Bella was also the deputy chief of the DOJ’s Fraud Section, where he oversaw national white collar investigations and helped convict more than 40 defendants in the largest fraud case in  Nevada’s history, according to Barnes & Thornburg.

In 2016, La Bella left the government and joined the California boutique law firm Bartko Zankel Bunzel & Miller, where he focused on a variety of white-collar defense matters, according to his LinkedIn profile. La Bella earned a law degree from Fordham University School of Law and an undergraduate degree from LeMoyne College.

Troy Zander, Barnes & Thornburg’s San Diego managing partner, said both attorneys are “well-known and well-regarded” in white-collar investigations and prosecutions.

“As we grow our litigation bench strength in Southern California, I can’t think of a better team to help us accelerate those efforts while strengthening our brand nationally,” Zander said in a statement.
