Building Closure – Coronavirus Update 3/21

By on March 21, 2020 Coronavirus

I hope you are all safe and doing well.  As you know, yesterday Governor Cuomo announced a new set of restrictions on gatherings, travel and businesses that goes into effect on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.  As hard as this blow is, it was not unexpected and will help us get through this challenge with fewer cases of COVID-19 in our community.

Unfortunately, it will no longer be possible for the Fordham Law Library to be open and our beautiful building will no longer be open for work after 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday.  Maloney library will be open tomorrow (Sunday) from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. as study space only, and we urge you to work at home if at all possible.   If you must come in, it is imperative that you practice appropriate social distancing.  We will be providing library and other services remotely,  a skill that we are rapidly gaining experience with. Students should consult the library website at library.law.fordham.edu for information about remote library services for assistance in research and for study aids.

If there are items in the building you will need access to, I recommend you get them before the Governor’s order goes into place tomorrow evening as travel will be limited and access to the Law School building may be restricted afterwards.  The University will be providing an update on this and other issues soon.

I know the loss of the study space in the building is a big blow and that many students do not have access to quiet surroundings in which to participate in classes remotely in to study in.  I am sorry that this step could not be avoided.

I have received many emails from students and members of our community over the past week and please do not hesitate to reach out, whether to simply share your experiences or to express your views.

I hope you are all doing well.  I am thinking of you all and wishing you the best.  I look forward to seeing you in person back at the Law School when this is over, and hearing from you and seeing you remotely until then.
