Symposium on Mental Health and the Legal Profession
This event is hosted by the Stein Center, Center for Neuroscience, and the Law and Center on Race, Law and Justice.
Lawyers’ mental health – their emotional, psychological, and social well-being – influences how
lawyers think, feel, act, handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Increasingly, the legal professional has addressed lawyers’ mental health and directed initiatives at lawyers’ substance abuse and other disorders. Presenters, including judges, law school professors, scholars and administrators, will focus on how lawyers’ mental health is affected by the interplay between legal practice and contemporary societal stresses – in particular, the COVID-19 pandemic, racial violence and discrimination, and political polarization.
