Fordham Law to Host New York City Mayoral Forum on Access to Justice Issues

On March 18, television news anchor and journalist Bill Ritter will moderate a conversation among the nine current candidates running in the 2021 New York City mayoral election. The event will be co-hosted by Fordham Law’s Access to Justice Initiative and the National Center for Access to Justice. The forum is co-sponsored by the Feerick Center for Social Justice, The Stein Center for Law and Ethics and FLAVR—Fordham Law Advocates for Voter Rights.

This informal discussion, conducted via Zoom, will focus primarily on issues of civil justice, highlighting consequences of the pandemic and through the context of challenges people currently face—including evictions, increased debt, mental health and emotional strain, and the city’s overburdened courts.

“There are so many critical legal issues that affect New Yorkers, particularly those who are most in need. When members of our community cannot rely on the justice system to protect their most basic rights, they lose faith in their public institutions,” said Dean Matthew Diller. “This event is an extraordinary opportunity to hear directly from the candidates on how they plan to restore trust in the justice system and ensure that there is equal justice under the law for all New Yorkers.”

Participating mayoral candidates include: Eric Adams, Kathryn Garcia, Ray McGuire, Carlos Menchaca, Dianne Morales, Shaun Donovan, Scott Stringer, Maya Wiley, and Andrew Yang.

The event will be live-streamed, from 12 to 1:30 pm, by WABC and Fordham Law School. Registration to watch the livestream through Fordham Law can be completed here.
