Deborah Denno comments in The Guardian on the family of a prisoner who was executed in Ohio using an untested combination of medical drugs that appeared to cause him prolonged distress and their planned lawsuit against the state for inflicting cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of the US constitution.
Deborah Denno, a law professor at Fordham University in New York who is a specialist in execution methods, said: “The cat is now out of the bag in terms of what these states are doing. They are out of control, taking ever greater risks with increasingly inappropriate drugs.”
