Professor Courtney Cox Receives Honorable Mention in 2022 AALS Scholarly Papers Competition

By Newsroom on November 19, 2021 Faculty, Law School News

Professor Courtney Cox received an honorable mention from the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in its 36th Annual AALS Scholarly Papers Competition. The competition is open to new and emerging law school faculty members who have been teaching for five years or fewer.

Using trade secrets as a case study, Professor Cox’s paper, “Legitimizing Lies” (forthcoming in the George Washington Law Review), shows how the law sometimes accepts lies as a legitimate option for fulfilling legal requirements—and may even require lies in increasingly common circumstances.

“Legitimizing Lies” was selected to be presented for the Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum 2020 through a blind peer review. It was also the subject of a March 2021 podcast episode (“Ipse Dixit Podcast: Courtney Cox on Lying”) and an October 2021 blog post (“Written Description Blog: Courtney Cox on Trade Secrets and Lying”).

Competition awards will be presented during a ceremony at the 116th AALS Annual Meeting on January 5, 2022.
