Dr. Stephen Freedman, Provost of Fordham University, has signed an agreement with the Ordem dos Avogados do Brasil (OAB) to establish a relationship between Fordham Law School and OAB. OAB is the Federal Brazilian Bar Association, a highly respected institution with chapters in all 26 Brazilian states plus the Distrito Federal and nearly one million members across the nation.

The agreement is designed to promote the interchange of ideas among members of the Fordham Law community and the OAB and to consider the formation of joint academic and professional development programs.

“We are enormously honored to have a collaboration with the premier representative of the bar in Brazil and one of the most active bar associations in the world,” said Toni Jaeger-Fine, Assistant Dean for International and Non-J.D. Programs, who negotiated the agreement with Marcus Vinicius Furtado Coelho, the President of the OAB. “We look forward to a long and mutually productive relationship with the OAB.”

Assistant Dean Jaeger-Fine said that she expects to formally launch the relationship with a program for Brazilian lawyers on U.S. law in 2015.
