Second Circuit Court of Appeals to Hear Cases at Fordham Law

The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit will be sitting at Fordham Law School on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The sitting marks the official opening of Fordham Law’s new building, which was dedicated on September 18 in a ceremony featuring Sonia Sotomayor, associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, and Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City.

It is also the first event held in the Gorman Moot Courtroom, the flagship venue in the new building’s Moore Advocacy Center.

Oral arguments will begin at 10 a.m. for five cases. The three-judge panel will consist of Chief Judge Robert A. Katzmann and two Fordham Law alumni: Judge Denny Chin ’78 and Judge Loretta A. Preska ’73, Chief Judge of the Southern District of New York, sitting with the Court of Appeals by designation.

The event is free and open to the public. Seating in the courtroom is limited, and all attendees will be subject to security screening. Observers should not bring briefcases, backpacks, purses or other bags. Use of cell phones and videotaping is prohibited.

Fordham Law students will gain admission to the courtroom via a lottery, and a simulcast will be offered in the Skadden Conference Center.

Members of the media who wish to observe, photograph, or make audio recordings of the oral arguments should contact Catherine O’Hagan Wolfe, Clerk of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, at 212-857-8585.

Briefs filed for each case are available for download in Acrobat PDF format.
