Alumnus Brad Butwin ’85 has been reelected to a second four-year term as chair of O’Melveny & Myers beginning in February 2017. The partnership’s strong show of support was reflected in its decision to reelect Brad eight months before the end of his current term.
Butwin originally took the helm of O’Melveny in January 2012, after heading the firm’s litigation department. He is a sought-after counselor and strategic advisor known for his relentless dedication to client service. Chambers USA has ranked him among the top 25 commercial litigators in New York for the past five years.
“It is a tremendous honor to continue serving a firm I love,” Butwin said. “Our people have remarkable talent, integrity, and dedication. As a firm, we will focus on serving as true resources to our clients by embracing innovations that make their lives easier and our work more efficient. We’ll also continue to be true to the values that have always guided O’Melveny and that so many of our clients share.”
Butwin is committed to serving the communities where O’Melveny operates and improving the legal profession as a whole. In recognition of his dedication to justice, he received the Human Relations Award from the New York Lawyers Division of the Anti-Defamation League; he cofounded the Court Square Law Project, an innovative public-private collaboration that pairs new law graduates with clients of modest means; and he is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Financial Reporting, and its Task Force on New Lawyers in a Changing Profession. He also serves as chair of the Fordham Law Financial Aid Campaign.
