From September 21 to 23, the Fordham Competition Law Institute hosted its annual International Antitrust Law and Policy Conference. Representatives from China’s three antitrust authorities—the Ministry of Commerce, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce—spoke on a panel titled “China Antitrust Enforcement Today and in the Future.” Discussions addressed antitrust and intellectual property in Asia, cartel hotspots, international competition convergence, and antitrust enforcement in China.

Keynote talks were given by the following individuals:

Edith Ramirez, chairwoman, Federal Trade Commission

Johannes Laitenberger, director-general of DG Competition, EU Commission

Renata Hesse, acting assistant attorney general, U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division

The conference began with a daylong antitrust economics workshop that combined role-play simulations, mini-lectures, and Q&A sessions. In addition to the Chinese authorities, panelists included senior officials from Chile, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore.
