In a talk at Fordham Law School, Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan returned several times to why he believed it was crucial for a law enforcement official like himself to publicly address corruption, according to the New York Times.
Mr. Bharara’s speech, at Fordham University School of Law, was the keynote address of a symposium, “Fighting Corruption in America and Abroad.”
He has noted that more than 18 New York State lawmakers had been prosecuted since 2007. “It’s a fundamental part of this job to talk about these issues,” he said, “so as a community and a country, we’re not just focused narrowly on prosecuting crime but also preventing it and deterring it.”
