Fordham Law School Professor Elizabeth Cooper spoke with The Wall Street Journal about Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s attempts to stop same-sex marriages from happening in his state.
Legal experts said Chief Justice Moore’s order carries little if any force because the U.S. Constitution trumps state law. “He has no leg to stand on,” said Elizabeth Cooper, a Fordham University law professor. “He’s trying to re-litigate states-rights issues that have long been settled.”
