    Mise à l’épreuve d’une nouvelle méthode d’exécution

By on January 15, 2014 Deborah Denno, Faculty, In the News

Deborah Denno comments to La Presse, a French newspaper, on Ohio’s cocktail used in the execution of Dennis McGuire.

Translation: “These companies do not want to have anything to do with our death penalty,” said La Presse Deborah Denno, an expert on lethal injection in the United States, with particular reference to the Danish company that produces pentobarbital.

Translation: “The selection of these agents is not due to a concern for humanity or efficiency. The selection of these agents is that they are the only ones Ohio Correctional Service can get, said Deborah Denno, who teaches law at Fordham University in New York. And that is the situation that weighs on the lethal injection procedure for four years. ”

Translation: “Yes, I think there is a link, meets Deborah Denno. Many other things are involved elsewhere, but the shortage of pharmaceuticals is certainly a contributing factor to the decline. “According to the Information Centre of the death penalty, 39 executions took place in the US in 2013, against 43 in 2012 and 98 in 1999.” If you study the history of lethal injection since the return of the death penalty, you should note that the procedure goes from bad to worse, says Deborah Denno. I think the time has come to try something different.
