Fordham Law alumnus Fernando Camacho spoke about his career in New York Law Journal.
He recalled the days in the 1980s when prostitutes were seen as low-level perps, not victims. He described the process as “Let’s make a deal,” where the prosecution asked for a 15-day jail term, the defense asked for five days and the judge would give a 10-day sentence.
“Back then, nobody really understood what these women were going through. No one really got it, or they didn’t care,” he said. “It was such a failure on our part because we didn’t want to deal with the issue.”
