Texas Almost Out of Execution Drug

Deborah Denno speaks to the Wall Street Journal about Texas, which has accounted for more than one-third of all U.S. executions since the mid-1970s, and its severe shortage of pentobarbital, its drug of choice for lethal injections.

Compared with other states, Texas has experienced relatively few problems with the mechanics of its death penalty. “If Texas is struggling, it’s really shows just how dire the situation has become for lethal injection nationwide,” said Deborah Denno, a criminal-law expert and law professor at Fordham University.
