Fordham Law School Professor Deborah Denno, a leading death penalty expert, spoke to the Associated Press about Utah’s recent decision to make a firing squad its backup execution method. Associated Press asked Denno whether firing squad executions have ever gone wrong.
Not in recent history, said Deborah Denno, a Fordham Law School professor who has long studied executions. Utah’s three firing squad executions in the past four decades went as planned, she said.
