Kwame Akosah ’15 has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Monsignor James J. Murray Prize for Achievement in Public Service. Monsignor Murray, a Fordham Law Class of 1951 alumnus, served for more than 25 years as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Executive Director for Catholic Charities. The award is presented to a graduating Fordham Law student who has displayed a commitment to pursuing a career in public service.

Throughout his time at Fordham Law, Akosah has made the protection and equal distribution of voting rights a top priority. He has served as an active board member of Fordham Law Advocates for Voter Rights, which works to restore voting rights through community outreach and the promotion of political empowerment. He was also Co-chair of Consumer Law Advocates, a student group that raises awareness of consumer debt issues. Akosah interned for the Brennan Center for Justice and has accepted a two-year Equal Justice Rights fellowship to work with the center in issues related to felony disenfranchisement.
