Giving Up the Bench in Hopes of Bringing Justice to the Bronx

James Cohen was quoted in a New York Times article about the choice of Bronx Democratic leaders to make New York State Supreme Court Justice Darcel Clark the party’s candidate for Bronx district attorney. Cohen commented on Justice Clark’s nomination in the absence of traditional electoral procedures.

“No one will see her as someone who got the job legitimately, and she will be treated like that,” said James Cohen, a law professor at Fordham University who teaches criminal procedure. “It does seem that a mediocre district attorney is being replaced by a person who is very politically connected and likely to continue the recent history at least of mediocrity in the Bronx district attorney’s office.”
