Otsego Dems back Teachout in house race

Zephyr Teachout in a Cooperstown Crier story about scooping up the endorsement of the Otsego County Democratic Party on Feb. 10 taking another stride toward the June 28 congressional primary in New York.

In an interview with The Daily Star earlier in the day, Zephyr Teachout explained her position on gun rights, siding with sportsmen’s groups in arguing that the New York SAFE Act is a significantly flawed law because it was rushed through the Legislature without giving gun owners the opportunity to review it.

“The SAFE Act was passed in the middle of the night, with no input from people, and in what I think was a disrespectful way, and the result is that there are a lot of elements of it that are problematic,” said Teachout, a Fordham Law School professor who has been residing in Dutchess County since early last year. “It doesn’t make sense because it wasn’t done in a way that engaged people.”

Teachout said she will be a forceful advocate for consumers and will push for universal competitive broadband — ensuring all citizens have access to internet service.

“I am not afraid to stand up to big companies,” she said. “I think you can see from my history that I am going to fight like hell for people.”
