Alumni Attorneys of Color Affinity Group

By lawalumni on April 5, 2016 Insider, News and Reminders

As you know, Fordham Law School proudly welcomed Dean Matthew Diller back to the Law School as our new Dean this past August.  Dean Diller has requested that the Fordham Law Alumni Association (FLAA) Board of Directors consider ways to further increase alumni engagement. One approach that has been well received has been the creation of affinity groups. Thus far, 12 affinity groups have been established, including the Women’s Networking Group and the Compliance Affinity Group.

Another possibility that has emerged is the creation of an Alumni Attorneys of Color (“AAC”) Group that would consist of Black, Latino and Asian alumni.  The thought is that such a group can be a powerful vehicle for alumni of color to engage among themselves as well with current students and the Law School community at large. The AAC can set the stage for alumni to support diversity initiatives at the Law School, network with peers socially and for business generation, share career advice. The creation of the AAC will strengthen the entire Fordham Law community.

As presently envisioned, the AAC would consist of an executive steering committee, as well as individual Black, Latino and Asian committees that will focus on each group’s individual goals and needs.

We would very much like to hear your views, and would appreciate it if you would participate in a brief survey.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Brenda L. Gill, Esq., FLS Class of 1995 and member of the FLAA Board, at Brenda.Gill@rgp.com.
