Professor Abner S. Greene was quoted in an Agence France-Presse article responding to President Trump’s tweet against the burning of the American flag.
Responding to this new controversy, constitutional First Amendment expert Abner Greene reverted to this quote from Supreme Court Justice William Brennan in his majority decision Texas v. Johnson of 1989: “We can imagine no more appropriate response to burning a flag than waving one’s own, no better way to counter a flag burner’s message than by saluting the flag that burns.”
