The Feerick Center Is Looking for Volunteers!

The Feerick Center is looking for volunteers to participate in an alumni trip through the CARA Family Detention Pro Bono Program in Dilley, Texas, from June 26, 2017 to July 1, 2017. Volunteers provide limited-scope legal assistance to asylum-seeking families detained at the South Texas Family Residential Center. No prior immigration experience is required. Spanish- and Creole-speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information, please contact Bree Bernwanger at [email protected].

The Feerick Center for Social Justice is also seeking volunteers for a number of other programs. Opportunities include

    1. The Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island CLARO programs, where volunteer attorneys provide limited-scope legal advice and assistance to New Yorkers in need at court-based clinics. The next basic CLARO training will take place on June 21, 2017, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at NYCLA.
    2. The LEEAP Education Component, which trains volunteers to assist low-income students and families in navigating the complex New York City public high school application process. The next LEEAP education training will take place on May 9, 2017, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Law School.
    3. The New York State Attorney Emeritus Program, an initiative of the New York State chief judge, which supports civil pro bono by attorneys 55 years and over.

For more information about these volunteer opportunities, please contact Dora Galacatos at [email protected] or 212-636-7747.
