Such a breach would have been “the kind of hack that financial nightmares are made of”, said Joel Reidenberg, a professor at Fordham University School of Law. Credit-reporting agencies “have all the critical details of your financial life that would enable a wrongdoer to wreak havoc with your finances,” he said.
