Professor Jed Shugerman was interviewed by MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss how Trump’s tweet about James Comey would figure into an obstruction of justice investigation.
[O]ne important factor with the tweet is this excuse that Trump wrote it with the help of a lawyer. Courts treat confessions written with the assistance of lawyers as more damning not less damning because a lawyer helped. If a layperson writes it by themselves it can be interpreted as a mistake. So this excuse they have come up with actually has backfired because a court will give that more credibility or it will be more damning. So that puts Trump in even worse shape.
