Carl Minzner was interviewed by National Public Radio about the current changing political landscape in China. China’s Communist Party recently announced that it intends to abolish term limits on the presidency, which will help President Xi Jinping to stay in power indefinitely.
I think people now have this idea that China is a technocratic super power that plans for the future. But I think if you look back to where China itself came from, there are real problems when you excessively concentrate power in the hands of a single person. You don’t have checks and balances and you start to have yes men proliferating, people don’t call out the errors and things can really start to decay.
