Kara Krakower and Daniella Villatoro, Fordham Law students in the Federal Tax Clinic, joined Professor Elizabeth Maresca, who directs the clinic, in conducting a one-day Veteran’s Day Legal Clinic at the Fordham University Rose Hill campus. The event was organized by the Feerick Center for Social Justice, as well as Volunteer Lawyers for Veterans and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President. It was co-sponsored by Loeb & Loeb, the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs, and the Urban Justice Center Veteran Advocacy Project.

Expert volunteer attorneys and legal interns assisted veterans by providing know-your-rights presentations and one-on-one consultations on matters including taxes, consumer debt, identity theft, credit reporting, and consumer bankruptcy. Brief advice was also dispensed by participating organizations regarding public benefits, VA benefits, trusts and estates, family law, small businesses, and discharge upgrades.

If you or someone you know is a veteran in need of further assistance related to tax matters, contact the Federal Tax Clinic at 212-636-6934.
