Akilah Browne, Former CED Clinic Student, Receives Skadden Fellowship

Akilah Browne, a 2019 Skadden Fellow who will be working with grassroots projects in affordable housing and community land trusts (CLT), laid her groundwork in community lawyering in the Community Economic Clinic (CED) under the supervision of Brian Glick. Browne led a team on a community land trust project that bridged the legal and social gaps among community organizations, residents of the neighborhood, and property owner. A CLT is a nonprofit entity that stewards the housing or other buildings on its property by retaining ownership of the land.

The CLT movement has been energized in cities across the country but particularly so in New York City where there are now over a dozen groups trying to build sustainable CLTs.
