The Daily Republic reported that Elena D’Agustino ’96 has been promoted to Solano County public defender. Solano County is located in northern California with a population of around 414,000.

FAIRFIELD — Seven months after being appointed interim public defender, and wearing two duty hats since, it was announced Tuesday that Elena D’Agustino has been promoted to Solano County public defender.

The announcement came after the closed session of the Board of Supervisors.

D’Agustino said she was “honored and humbled” by the board’s decision, and said having the matter settled will allow the Public Defender’s office to better serve the clients and community.

D’Agustino was hired by the county in August 1998 and promoted as one of three chief deputy public defenders in October 2010.

She has supervised felony and misdemeanor attorneys and represented clients in dozens of jury trials. She graduated from Fordham University School of Law in New York. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

D’Agustino replaces Lesli Caldwell, who retired at the end of 2018 after more than eight years in the job. She came to Solano County in 2007 after 27 years as a public defender in Contra Costa County.
