Professor Mark Patterson shared his expert opinions with The Economist regarding the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Epic Games, maker of the popular online video game “Fortnite.” Professor Patterson sees parallels with Microsoft’s run-in with trustbusters in 2001.
The software giant’s bundling of its web browser with its Windows operating system was eventually found to be anticompetitive. Apple exerts more power over iPhones than Microsoft did over Windows PCs, Mr. Patterson says. But its share of the market for mobile operating systems is smaller than Microsoft’s was in desktops.
Professor Patterson was also the featured guest on an episode of The Economist‘s weekly technology and science podcast Babbage. In this episode, Professor Patterson explains everything that’s happened so far in the case.
