Recap of the LALSA Panel Discussion on Latinx Multiculturalism

By lawalumni on October 20, 2021 Insider, News and Reminders

The LALSA student group recently hosted a panel which included alumni Rosevelie Márquez Morales ’02 and Grissel Seijo ’06 as well as Rafael Zapata, Chief Diversity Officer, Special Assistant to the President for Diversity and Associate VP for Academic Affairs and moderator Professor Tanya Hernández.

“The Diversity Panel was incredibly inspiring for our LALSA members. We received feedback in which students indicated their surprise at how candid and sincere our panelists were in sharing their own experiences of bias within the Latinx / Latine community.  It was validating to hear that our accomplished panelists experienced a wide range of bias and colorism directed towards themselves and their families, and encouraging to hear the ways in which they have overcome these challenges in their personal and professional lives.  We hope to continue the conversation on these important topics to demonstrate and uplift diverse voices within our Latinx / Latine community.”
    – Dayana Ledezma, President of LALSA
