Professor Deborah Denno was quoted in articles by Associated Press, Verdict Justia, and Daily Mail, all discussing the flawed execution of Clarence Dixon––the first execution in Arizona in nearly eight years.
Deborah Denno, a Fordham Law School professor who has studied executions for more 25 years, said executions should take seven to 10 minutes from the beginning of the IV insertion process until the moment the prisoner is declared dead.
“[The time it took to execute Dixon was] a sign of desperation (on the part of the execution team), and it’s a sign of an unqualified executioner,” Denno said.
