Professor James Brudney has been appointed faculty director of Fordham Law’s Center for Judicial Events & Clerkships (CJEC), succeeding Professor Daniel Capra, who served as the founding Faculty Director for the CJEC.
Since 2019, the CJEC has designed a number of innovative programs to engage members of the judiciary in the life of the law school such as its’ Jurist in Residence Program, First to the Bench, Judges Weeks, and View from Chambers Program. Equally important to its mandate, the CJEC has focused efforts to enhance support for students and alumni pursuing judicial clerkships, nearly doubling the number of clerkships obtained and developing a comprehensive support structure for applicants, including a Peer Clerkship Council.
Brudney, the Joseph Crowley Chair in Labor and Employment Law, joined Fordham Law in 2011 after nearly 20 years at Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law. A noted expert in labor and employment law, he also serves as a member of the Committee of Experts of the International Labor Organization. He also brings his perspective and experience having served as a judicial law clerk for both U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun and Judge Gerhard A. Gesell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Brudney will work with Suzanne M. Endrizzi ’96, assistant dean of the CJEC. Endrizzi previously led the Law School’s Career Planning Center as assistant dean.
“It has been a pleasure working alongside Professor Capra to build the CJEC from the ground up.” said Endrizzi “We all owe him a debt of gratitude for his tireless work and support for our clerkship applicants. The students and alumni who have been taught by Professor Brudney will appreciate how fortunate we are to have him join as our Faculty Director.”
“I am thrilled Professor Brudney will join the CJEC as faculty director,” said Fordham Law School Dean Matthew Diller. “Throughout his tenure, he has been an important leader at Fordham in steering our intellectual life and a beloved teacher to our students. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Professor Capra and Suzanne Endrizzi, the center has become one of the jewels of Fordham Law, enriching our intellectual life with its programming and opening new doors for our students. With Professor Brudney’s deep experience in the law and strong ties to the judiciary, he is the natural successor to Professor Capra, and I know the CJEC and our community will benefit from his engagement.”
