Fordham Law welcomes 161 new graduate students for the fall 2022 semester—104 students in nine LL.M. degree specializations, including two students in the new online LL.M. program in Corporate Compliance; five students in the in-person M.S.L. programs; 39 students in the online M.S.L. programs in Corporate Compliance; and five doctoral degree candidates who will be working under the supervision of Professors Paolo Galizzi, Martin Gelter, Sean Griffith, Russell Pearce, and Olivier Sylvain.
This new group of students joins the 42 LL.M. students, 117 M.S.L. students, and six doctoral candidates who are continuing their studies, for a total of 326 graduate students. Our new graduate students come from 37 countries and often have significant work experience in their respective areas of expertise.
Of note, two Fulbright Scholars have chosen to pursue their graduate law degrees at Fordham Law. Katja Bignall-Daly earned her LL.B. from Adelaide University and is a criminal defense lawyer at Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement in South Australia. Quynh Nguyen earned her LL.B. from Vietnam National University and is a senior associate attorney at Ernst & Young’s office in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The incoming class also includes Mengxun Mi, the recipient of the John D. Feerick Scholarship, Jorge Enrique Vazquez Navarro, the recipient of the Michael M. Martin Scholarship, and Rita Okafor, the recipient of the William Michael Treanor Scholarship. Mi earned his LL.M. in Japan at Waseda University and worked at law firms in China and Japan, most recently as a junior associate at Tian Tuo Law Firm in Tokyo. Navarro earned his LL.B. in Mexico at Universidad Panamericana and LL.M. in the U.K. at Queen Mary University of London. He was a senior associate at Santamarina Y Steta, S.C., before joining Clifford Chance as a foreign associate. Okafor earned her LL.B. in Nigeria from Ebonyi State University. She is a tax and legal associate at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
Fordham Law also welcomes two Vivian Leitner Global South LL.M. Scholars, Esther Akhigbe and Nang Hsu Mon Thar. Akhigbe earned her LL.B. in Nigeria from Ambrose Alli University and worked as an associate at Siji Soetan & Co. Thar earned her LL.B. in Myanmar at Mandalay University of Distance Education and her M.P.A. from Meiktila University of Economics. She has worked in human rights in Myanmar, most recently as national legal advisor for the International Commission of Jurists and as legal aid manager for My Justice.
Fordham Law’s M.S.L. program in Corporate Compliance welcomes two Harold S. Geneen scholarship recipients. Jason Carroll is a junior compliance officer at Goldman Sachs and a recent graduate of Brown University. While at Brown, he showed remarkable leadership through his active role representing students of color in the campus community. He interned with the U.S. House of Representatives, the Office of the Governor of Rhode Island, and the American Council on International Education. Juliana Kim is a senior compliance analyst at Nasdaq and has previously worked as an intelligence analyst for the Bronx County District Attorney’s office. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.
“We are so excited to welcome such a talented and diverse group of new LL.M., M.S.L., and S.J.D. students this semester,” said Anthony Agolia, director of the Law School’s graduate programs. “After completing an intensive two-week orientation program, I know they are ready to dive into their coursework. I look forward to the many contributions that they will make to the Fordham Law community and to seeing what they go on to do with their Fordham Law education.”

The spring 2023 application cycle is open for our online compliance programs (available for both M.S.L. and LL.M. students), as well as our brand new online LL.M. program in U.S. Law. We are also accepting applications from students who wish to join our in-person LL.M. program in the spring 2023 semester. The fall 2023 admissions cycle will begin on Sept. 15, 2022. Applications for the summer 2023 online programs in compliance (both LL.M. and M.S.L.) will open on Oct. 1, 2022.
