The Feerick Center for Social Justice held its annual Awards & Benefit Reception on Oct. 24 at the headquarters of Mutual of America in New York City.

Distinguished guests and supporters of the Center celebrated its impact and work with Fordham Law students and alumni, legal services providers, community-based organizations, bar associations, and the courts at this year’s reception. Fordham Law alumni were honored for upholding the promise of the Law School’s motto, “In the service of others,” through their daily work.

“[This year’s] truly extraordinary group of honorees are all our source of inspiration and a reflection of what is so special about the Fordham Law community, our partners, and the work that we do,” said Dora Galacatos ’96, executive director of the Feerick Center.

The 2022 honorees included Jennifer Jones Austin ’93, who received the Hon. Deborah A. Batts Life of Commitment Award; Bradley J. Butwin ’85 and Rafal Gawlowski ’00, who each received the Spirit of Service Award; Professor Gail D. Hollister ’70, who was honored posthumously with a new award created in her name, the Dedication to Excellence Award, presented to her husband, Edward G. Williams, and son, Gregory P. Williams; and the New York Women’s Bar Association Foundation, Inc., which received the Champion of Justice Award, accepted by Laurie Berke-Weiss ’83.

“[The honorees’] work has made an invaluable contribution to the broader community and they represent the best of what Fordham Law stands for,” Dean Matthew Diller said. “This spirit of service within our community is what undergirds the Feerick Center’s efforts in the long fight for social justice.”

The 2022 Benefit exceeded its fundraising goal, thanks to donors’ contributions. Those interested in still making a gift can do so online.
