MTA Inspector General Office’s Shareema Abel, and Fordham Law’s director of the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Center, Adam Shlahet, share tips on closing arguments from their time practicing in the Bronx when Abel was a prosecutor, and Shlahet was a criminal defense attorney with the Legal Aid Society.

“After they’re done listening to you, and after they’re done listening to the judge, they’re actually going to have work to do,” Shlahet said. “They need to understand what the evidence means—need to understand the exact issues they have to decide. They need to know what the legal standards are going to be. And they need to be able to explain that and advocate that to their fellow jurors.”
