Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Nejat Güvensoy attended Bahçeşehir University and will be graduating from the intellectual property and information technology LL.M. program at Fordham Law in the Class of 2024. Güvensoy says he is excited about the opportunity to delve into cutting-edge legal issues that include artificial intelligence and virtual reality, and he hopes to collaborate with lawyers from around the world who are working in the fields of fashion, technology, and art.

Why did you choose Fordham Law?

I want to work on the legal problems that the world will face in the near future, especially issues related to emerging technologies including intellectual property and information technology. I chose Fordham because it’s a pioneering and innovative institution in so many different fields of the law.

What was the best thing about studying law in New York City?

Seeing people from all over the world all living together is an experience in itself. This is a city that pioneers many legal developments in the world and is at the forefront of legal innovation.

What were you involved in at the Law School?

I worked as a research assistant since my first month at Fordham Law. I focused on tech and IP-based research, guided by Professor Hugh Hansen, and I was involved in coordinating a major international intellectual property law conference. I also have an interest in fashion law and was in close contact with clubs and institutes in that field.

What was your favorite moment at Fordham Law?

I went to Fordham University’s homecoming event which included a football game attended by Fordham alumni, their families, and new students. During that event, I really felt like I belonged to the Fordham family and understood the value of this community.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

In the future, I hope to make my mark in the areas of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies. By using my community-building and leadership qualities, I want to collaborate with lawyers from different parts of the world who are working in the fields of fashion, technology and art, to work together to make a difference in shaping the future of the law.

Fordham Law’s LL.M. program is training the next generation of global lawyers. Learn more about the program and our nine specializations.
