Fordham Law School will host the Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute Transatlantic Conference on Tuesday, June 4. Each year, the Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute unites leading law firms, practitioners, academics, and students worldwide to assess cross-border transactional trends, analyze issues, and drive innovation and best practices.

This year—due to the major elections scheduled to take place across the globe—the conference will focus on the U.S., U.K., and India, with a panel of experts from each location. The event is co-hosted by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Robert Posner, chief executive of the UK Electoral Commission from 2018 to 2022, will deliver the keynote address. In this role, Posner was celebrated for ensuring well-run elections and compliance with political financial rules. An experienced public sector lawyer, he currently serves as a consultant at the law firm Bates Wells and is the author of the renowned treatise, “Schofields on Election Law.”

The conference will feature a number of expert panelists:

  • Jerry Goldfeder, director of Fordham Law School’s Voting Rights and Democracy Project and chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Voting Rights and Democracy Task Force. He has taught election law at Fordham Law since 2003, authored Goldfeder’s Modern Election Law, now in its sixth edition, and served as a consultant for CNN’s mini-series “The Race for the White House.”
  • Siôn Simon, a specialist partner at Flint Global, who advises on public policy and political risk. He has served as a Labor Member of the European Parliament, a member of the British Parliament, a minister in the Labor government, as well as a political columnist and senior manager at a Financial Times Stock Exchange top-10 company.
  • Rumela Sen, who teaches at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, focusing on policy making, political development, comparative political economy and South Asia. Her forthcoming book examines Maoist rebels in India, and her research is featured in several notable publications.

The conference will be moderated by Professor Richard Squire, Alpin J. Cameron Chair in Law and the faculty director of the Fordham Corporate Law Center.
