Andrew Jeong ’26 spent his summer gaining experience in cross-border transactional work as a summer associate at White & Case in New York City. He said the experience gave him “clarity and direction” for his future career as an attorney working in mergers and acquisitions and a stronger sense of the practice areas he would like to focus on, such as private equity. The opportunity also came with some great perks, including the chance to attend a Beyoncé concert in a VIP suite with his colleagues.
Where are you interning this summer?
I am working as a summer associate at White & Case in New York City.
What excited you about this opportunity?
I applied to White & Case because of its strong reputation in cross-border transactional work and its global platform. With offices in nearly every major market and a deep bench of local counsel, the firm is uniquely positioned to handle sophisticated international deals. That kind of collaborative, cross-border environment aligns perfectly with my long-term career goals working in mergers and acquisitions.
What excited me most was the chance to dive into different types of transactional work, whether by observation or through hands-on assignments. I was eager to get as close as possible to what it means to be a transactional lawyer in a fast-paced setting
What are you doing in this role?
I’ve been involved in a range of substantive work. That includes conducting due diligence, drafting ancillary documents for transactions, and researching legal issues affecting the fiduciary duties of directors and officers of corporations. The team has been very supportive in assigning work that’s challenging yet appropriate for my level.
What has been your favorite part of the experience so far?
It’s hard to choose just one, but the summer events have been truly unforgettable. A standout was attending a Beyoncé concert in a VIP suite, which was not only fun but also an incredible bonding experience with colleagues. I’ve also appreciated the informal lunches with associates, where I’ve had candid conversations about their practice areas and professional journeys.
What is your degree program and what area of law are you interested in?
I’m currently pursuing a J.D. at Fordham Law. I’m most drawn to mergers and acquisitions, especially private equity.
Where did you grow up and where did you attend college?
I’m from Seoul, South Korea, and I completed my undergraduate studies at UCLA, where I majored in political science.
How do you think this summer experience will help you when you return to Fordham Law and/or in your future career?
This experience has given me clarity and direction. I now have a stronger sense of what practice areas I want to pursue and how I want to shape my legal career. When I return to Fordham, I’ll be more strategic in selecting classes that strengthen my background in corporate law and prepare me for transactional work at a global firm.
