This spring, Fordham Law’s Corporate Law Center launched Bite-Sized Business Law, a new podcast that promises to “tackle big issues in small doses” through interviews with corporate attorneys, industry experts, public figures, and business law scholars. The podcast, hosted by Amy Martella, executive director of the Corporate Law Center, has already released nine episodes, on topics including crypto bankruptcies, SPACs, and the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. New York City Mayor Eric Adams today appointed Nestor Davidson as the chair of the New York City Rent Guidelines Board (RGB). A professor of housing and land use at Fordham University School of Law, Davidson is an expert in affordable housing and land use law and brings decades of experience in government and academia to the role. The U.S. Senate confirmed President Joe Biden’s nomination of Justice Maria Araújo Kahn ’89 to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Kahn is currently an associate justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. Read more in the New York Law Journal.
Guns are now the leading cause of death for individuals between the ages of 1 to 24, and active shooter incidents have skyrocketed over the last decade. On January 18, the Legal English Institute (LEI) at Fordham Law School welcomed 17 new participants. Fordham Law School is collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science (SCS) on a new National Science Foundation program to study innovative ways to make software more accountable to law and society by bridging the gap between law and computing. To date, law and software engineering have been largely siloed, and legal accountability is typically addressed late in the design process, after key decisions have been made and when the cost to change those decisions is high. Fordham Law School will offer its Structural Issues in Law Firm Management program this winter in collaboration with leading Brazilian law firm Mattos Filho. The program brings together leading law firm partners, business services professionals, and in-house lawyers so that participants can learn about law firm management strategies and best practices. This is the third time the school is working with the firm to offer the program. The first successful incarnation kicked off in February 2021. New Index Uncovers “Dismal” Fines and Fees Policies; Reveals Reform Agenda for All States The National Center for Access to Justice (NCAJ) at Fordham Law School today released a new Fines and Fees Justice Index, an update to NCAJ’s May 2021 rankings of the states’ best policies to curb the unjust use of fines and fees.
