The Center for Judicial Events and Clerkships (CJEC) welcomed U.S. Circuit Court Judge Stephen Higginson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to Fordham Law as its Spring 2022 Jurist in Residence. The highly anticipated visit marked the physical return of a popular CJEC program at Fordham Law School. Fordham Law School was ranked number 37 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in their latest annual rankings of the country’s best law schools. The Law School’s part-time program was ranked third in the nation, and ten of Fordham Law’s specialty programs ranked in the top 30, including trial advocacy (7). The United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union has reopened long settled agreements between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom concerning Northern Ireland and brought new attention to the unresolved questions on the island’s future. Following an event-filled Student Week Against Mass Incarceration that examined the relationship between mass incarceration and the current housing crisis this year, the Fordham Law Advocates for Voter Rights (FLAVR) student organization hosted a virtual panel discussion focusing on decarceration, democracy, and voter restoration. A cohort of experts and advocates addressed the consequences that stem from mass incarceration as well as ways in which the deprivation of voting rights feeds into the underlying issue. To mark its ninth annual symposium, Fordham Law’s OUTLaws student association is bringing together those involved in the international human rights system to discuss the state of LGBTQIA+ identity around the world and how regional organizers are tackling issues pertaining to anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation.
