    Posting a Welcome Message

LawIT recommends instructors post a welcome message to the class. Using the Law School’s Blackboard course template, instructors can add an item to the Course Home content area. Alternatively, instructors can create an Announcement. See instructions here on how to post an announcement to the class.

      1. Click on the Course Home content area on the left.
      2. Next, click on the chevron icon Pull-down icon next to the existing sample Welcome Message shown and choose Edit. Alternatively, instructors may choose to create a new message by hovering over Build Content and selecting Create Item.

Note, opting to create a new item will result in two welcome messages in the Course Home area; the new message plus the default sample Welcome to Tax Regulation 101 message. For this reason, LawIT recommends instructors modify the existing sample message. To delete a message/post, click on the chevron and choose Delete.

      1. Follow the prompts to modify the Name and Description of the item.

    1. Add an attachment if needed and select to make the item available to students.
    2. Set any Date and Time restrictions and click Submit.

    Updating Contact Information in Blackboard

Supplying students your contact information is essential, especially in light of COVID. Instructions you may want to also include social media information such a Twitter handle and specify office hours availability.

Follow the same steps as adding a Welcome Message to modify the existing Dr. Jane Do contact information shown in the Law School’s Blackboard course template, Course Home area.

    Begin by:

    1. Clicking on the chevron icon Blackboard screenshot - pull-down Blackboard screenshot - pull-down
next to Dr. Jane Doe and selecting Edit.
    2. Update the Name and Description of the item and click Submit
