    Fordham Law Wrapped: Top 10 Newsroom Stories of 2024

    While recording artists like Taylor Swift and The Weeknd topped Spotify Wrapped, these were the most-viewed stories in the Fordham Law Newsroom, garnering more than 14,000 page views in 2024. From the announcement of Fordham Law’s new dean to the addition of new faculty members, esteemed guest speakers, and even a few Valentine’s Day alumni love stories, 2024 was another remarkable year at Fordham Law. 

    Read on for the top 10 most-clicked stories of the year: 

    1. Meet Afrika Owes ’24

    Graduating 3L Afrika Owes ’24, who served as president of the Black Law Students Association and director of diversity for the Student Bar Association, spoke with the Newsroom about her experience at Fordham Law School and future career plans.

    2. Joseph Landau Named Dean of Fordham Law School

    On July 1, Joseph Landau became the 12th dean of Fordham Law School, succeeding Matthew Diller. Landau was chosen after an eight-month national search.

    3. Fordham Law School Welcomes Four New Faculty Members

    Four new professors joined the faculty this year. The addition of Doni Bloomfield, Mariam Hinds, Gowri Krishna ’06, and Ela Leshem will advance the Law School’s commitment to excellence in legal education in fields ranging from intellectual property to social justice, legal theory, and criminal law.

    4. Meet the Couples Who Found Love at Fordham Law

    For Valentine’s Day, seven married couples—all alums of Fordham Law—shared their heartfelt stories of meeting in Law School.

    5. Incoming Dean Joseph Landau Announces New Leadership Team

    Dean Joseph Landau announced the appointment of his senior leadership team, naming Pamela Bookman as associate dean for academic affairs, Bennett Capers as associate dean for research, Norrinda Brown as associate dean of experiential education, and Ron Lazebnik as associate dean of administration. Ben Zipursky was named interim associate dean for research while Capers was on sabbatical.

    6. Fordham Law Celebrates the Class of 2024 at 117th Diploma Ceremony

    Fordham Law School celebrated its 117th diploma ceremony on May 20, awarding degrees to 683 graduates at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus. Jessica Berman ’02, commissioner of the National Women’s Soccer League, was this year’s diploma ceremony speaker.

    7. At Fordham Law, Political Correspondent Steve Kornacki Breaks Down the 2024 Presidential Election

    Journalist Steve Kornacki joined Jerry Goldfeder, adjunct professor and director of the Voting Rights and Democracy Project, to discuss his life, career, the ins and outs of election coverage, and his new book.

    8. Fordham Law Kicks Off Spring Semester with New Faces, Classes, and Public Service Initiatives

    The spring 2024 semester kicked off with 13 new courses, including Introduction to Chinese Law and Artificial Intelligence & Law, and the addition of new faculty member Professor Harlan Grant Cohen and William Hughes Mulligan Distinguished Visiting Professor Manuel José Cepeda Espinosa.

    9. Catherine Powell Named Senior Advisor to White House Gender Policy Council

    In January, it was announced that Fordham Law Professor Catherine Powell would serve on a six-month assignment as a senior advisor on the White House Gender Policy Council.

    10. Fordham Law Names Elizabeth Acevedo Assistant Dean of the Career Planning Center

    Elizabeth “Beth” Acevedo joined Fordham Law in August as the new assistant dean of the Career Planning Center. She was previously the assistant dean for the Center for Career Development at Rutgers Law School in Newark.
