    In the Service of Others

A good time was had by all at the November 5, 2015, Stein Alumni Awards Reception, which honored “In the Service of Others” awardees Jessica Rose ’01, Director of the Community and Economic Development Program at Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A, and Seth DuCharme ’03, Deputy Chief of the National Security & Cybercrime Section at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District.

During Jessica’s acceptance speech, she emphasized the importance of the Stein Scholars Program and the impact of receiving the award:

Beyond fostering a supportive community of faculty, administration, and students dedicated to public interest work during my law school experience, Stein has continued to be an ever-positive presence throughout my career.

The “In the Service of Others” award is such a meaningful affirmation of my commitment to community and economic development and the larger struggle to assist the low-income communities of NYC to achieve social, economic, and racial justice.

Seth echoed similar themes when he spoke:

The Stein Scholars Program provided me with a community to be part of that was diverse and stimulating and showed me that whatever differences there might be, we shared fundamental values and a commitment to public service. Being part of that community allowed me to survive law school, gave me confidence, and helped me to find a meaningful career, which has been full of joys, challenges, and rewards.

More than 100 Stein Scholars, Stein alums and Fordham faculty turned-out to celebrate the Stein Scholars Program, recognize the inspiring work of the award recipients, rekindle connections, and renew commitments to the next generation of Stein Scholars. Dean Matthew Diller welcomed the guests, as did Stein Center Director Bruce Green and Assistant Dean Tom Schoenherr. Clinical Associate Professor of Law Brian Glick presented Jessica Rose with her award and Olivia Gonzalez ’15 presented Seth DuCharme with his. Recent Stein graduate Alex Cardenas ’15 gave closing remarks.
