Awards and recognition do not drive academic excellence at Fordham, but it has been wonderful to see the law community take notice of the groundbreaking scholarship generated by our faculty and students.
I am particularly inspired by the collaboration and innovation taking place here at Fordham Law. The result has been a level of research and learning that is having real and lasting impacts on how we as a nation, and as global citizens, address many of the legal issues of our day.

Richard D. Cudahy Writing Competition Winners. Professors Andrew Kent, Ethan J. Leib, and Jed Shugerman were named the winners of the Twelfth Annual Richard D. Cudahy Writing Competition on Regulatory and Administrative Law by the American Constitution Society at the 2019 National Convention. They were recognized for their paper Faithful Execution and Article II (Harvard Law Review June 2019). Read more.
Professor Paul-Emile Wins John Hope Franklin Prize. Professor Kimani Paul-Emile accepted the John Hope Franklin Prize at the annual meeting of the Law and Society Association. The Prize, which recognizes “exceptional scholarship in the field of Race, Racism and the Law,” was awarded to Professor Paul-Emile for her article “Blackness as Disability?” published in the 2018 Georgetown Law Journal. Professor Reidenberg Receives Berkeley Privacy Award. Founder and Director of the Center on Law and Information Policy (CLIP), Professor Joel Reidenberg, received the 2019 Berkeley Center for Law & Technology Privacy Award for his pioneering work on a wide range of issues, including privacy policies, privacy harms, government surveillance, privacy in online gaming, and algorithmic decision-making, as well as other technology-related topics. Professor Lenhardt Honored by AALS. Professor Robin A. Lenhardt, the faculty director of Fordham’s Center on Race, Law & Justice, was honored with the Clyde Ferguson Award by the Association of American Law Schools. The award recognizes “an outstanding law teacher, who in the course of his or her career has achieved excellence in the areas of public service, teaching, and scholarship.” Read more.
Professor Green Receives ABA Professional Responsibility Award. Director of the Louis Stein Center for Law, Professor Bruce Green, was named the recipient of the American Bar Association’s Michael Franck Professional Responsibility Award. It honors individuals who have made an impact in the areas of legal ethics, disciplinary enforcement, and lawyer professionalism. Read more.
Student Casey Adams Wins 2019 Burton Award. On the day of his graduation from Fordham Law on May 20th, Casey Adams ’19 was honored with a Law360 Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing. One of ten law students across the country to receive the honor, Adams was selected for his paper entitled, “Home Rules: The Case for Local Administrative Procedure,” which analyzes and advocates for the importance of procedural statutes for cities in the United States. Poverty Tax and Justice Clinic Recognized. The new Poverty, Tax and Justice Clinic won an “Honorable Mention” award for Excellence in a Special Project from the Clinical Legal Education Association. It was recognized for successfully advocating for the enactment of an amendment to a New York State tax law that will provide a hardship exemption for low-income New Yorkers who are past due on their taxes and help them avoid suspension of their driver’s license. Student Journal Excellence. Judges rely on Fordham Law’s student journals. Our student journals are also some of the most cited by law reviews. Fordham Law Review, for example, is the fourth most cited law journal by judges and the seventh most cited overall. Additionally, all six of Fordham Law’s specialty journals are among the top ten most cited journals in their fields. Read more.
